About The Union Zimbabwe Trust (UZT)

The Union Zimbabwe Trust is a local not for profit organization, legally registered as a Trust, registration number: MA 299/2019 since February 2019.

It is a scientific organization with a mandate to improve health among marginalized communities in Zimbabwe. UZT exists to promote innovative public health solutions by developing, implementing and evaluating tuberculosis, lung health and non-communicable disease programmes within the framework of national public health priorities in Zimbabwe

We seek to:

  • provide technical assistance for the prevention and control of tuberculosis, other comorbidities and related emerging public health priorities in Zimbabwe and Africa;
  • promote operations research to inform evidence based public health practice in the fight against tuberculosis, lung diseases, HIV/AIDS and related emerging public health priorities;
  • advocate for the adoption of cutting edge public health innovations in the fight against tuberculosis, lung diseases, HIV/AIDS and related emerging public health priorities.

Board Members

Dr Barnet Nyathi
Dr Barnet Nyathi Founding Trustee and current Board Chairperson
Dr Nyathi is a Medical doctor with diplomas in Public health and Venereology. He has extensive experience in Public health, having worked for International Union Against TB and Lung diseases as Country Director in Zimbabwe; the United Nations as UNAIDS Country Programme Advisor for South Africa and Intercountry Team for Eastern and Southern Africa. He had a stint as Director of Health Services, City of Bulawayo in Zimbabwe
Advocate Gondai Sithole
Advocate Gondai Sithole Founding Trustee
Mr. Gondai Sithole is an advocate for the peoples’ right to live in a society in which good public health practice is a priority. He holds a Bachelor of Laws Honours degree from the University of Zimbabwe and a member of the Law Society of Zimbabwe. He is a Partner at Kantor and Immerman Legal Practitioners. Between October 2013 and December 2019, he has served as a Board Legal Advisor to the Students and Youths Working on Reproductive Health Action Team (SAYWHAT), a non-governmental organization that focuses on sexual and reproductive health (SRH) issues from.
Dr Davies Gordon Dhlakama
Dr Davies Gordon Dhlakama Founding Trustee
Dr Dhlakama is a Public Health Specialist with a long history of working in the Ministry of Health and Child Care for more than three decades, assuming the role of coordinating health services across all tiers of the health delivery system, from district through to national level. He has special interest in health services management and community health systems. Dr Dhlakama is a medical doctor with a Masters’ degree in Public health.
Mr Israel Ndlovu
Mr Israel Ndlovu Founding Trustee
Mr. Ndlovu is a Chartered Management Accountant with more than 37 years’ experience in financial management, business investments, local government finance, inter-governmental fiscal relationships and project management. He holds an Accounting degree from the University of Zimbabwe. He served as the Chief of Party for a USAID/Zimbabwe project working with local governments and civil society in Zimbabwe. He served for 11 years as the City Treasurer/Financial Director for the City of Bulawayo specializing in financial services, accounting, management, local governance, and capacity building. Mr. Ndlovu has extensive expertise in designing, appraising and monitoring financial and related management systems and has played a key role in capacity building for Local Authorities in Zimbabwe by widening their income base.

Dr Ronald Ncube
Dr Ronald NcubeTechnical Director
Dr Ncube is a Public health practitioner with 20 years of public health practice in Zimbabwe and Botswana. He had a three year stint heading Botswana’s National TB Programme, before joining the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease as Deputy Country Director for Zimbabwe, a position he held for six years before usurping his current role with UZT. He has a keen interest in operations research as a means to inform best practice in public health.
Lambert Muirimi
Lambert MuirimiSenior Administrator
Mr Muirimi oversees the finance and administration functions of UZT and brings with him 28 years working experience in the private sector both locally and in the United Kingdom. He also worked for international development organizations at senior management level. He is an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ACIS) and holds a Masters’ degree in Business Administration.
